Bishop Hurron Freeman, Mid-West Diocesan

Bishop_Freeman_op_696x860Bishop Hurron Carlton Freeman, the son of Hurron and Elena Freeman was born September 11, 1952. He was educated in the Bertie County school system and graduated from Bertie Senior High School in 1971. He enlisted in the Army National Guard after graduation and actively completed four years of service specializing in field wireman communications.

Bishop Freeman was baptized December 1975, at Mount Carmel Way of the Cross Church in Jesus’ name under the ministry of Bishop Willie McGhee Jr. Shortly afterwards, he was filled with the Holy Ghost. August 7, 1976, Bishop Freeman met and married the love of his life, Sister Mamie Razor Freeman (First Lady) at Mount Carmel Way of the Cross Church in Williamston, North Carolina.


January of 1977, God inspired Bishop Hurron Freeman to the field of ministry. He preached his first trial sermon at the Mount Carmel Way of the Cross Church in Williamston, North Carolina under the ministry of Bishop Willie McGhee Jr. He ministered a dynamic and soul-searching text from St. John 1:36, “Behold the lamb of God”. In December of 1981, Bishop Freeman founded the Pilgrim Way of the Cross Church in Scotland, Neck. Bishop Freeman has received the following promotions since the start of his ministry:


Promoted District Elder of N.C. and S.C. Diocese by Bishop Sammy Davis.


Elected Chairman of the District Elder Board N.C. and S.C. Diocese


Consecrated to the office of Bishop in 2001


Promoted to the Executive Board of Bishops in 2008


Appointed Administrative Assistant to Bishop Alston in the state of N.C.


Bishop Freeman has constructed and designed two churches. Pilgrim Way of the Cross Church in Scotland, Neck and Mount Olive Way of the Cross Church in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. He has a radio broadcast on WCPS, 970 AM dial, Tarboro, NC


Bishop Freeman has purchased three additional lots adjacent to the church. He is currently constructing a larger dining area, and two additional bathrooms, and a church office to Pilgrim Way of the Cross Church. Bishop Freeman’s motto is ” That men ought always to pray, and not to faint.” (St. Luke 18:1)
