Bishop Leroy H. Cannady, Presiding Bishop & General Overseer

Bishop Leroy H. Cannady, Sr. was born in Franklinton, North Carolina on May 27, 1922 to Benjamin Howard and Crescie Ann Smith Cannady. He was joined in holy matrimony on December 10, 1944 to the late Mother Virginia Ree Cannady. He is the father of eight children: (Delphine, Vivian, Leroy, Jr. (deceased), James, Gregory, Michael and Phyllis); twenty-three (23) grandchildren; and twenty-three (23) great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

From his humble beginnings, Bishop Cannady’s journey and legacy has been one of faithfulness and dedication while serving diligently for forty-seven (47) years as Pastor and Founder of the Refuge Way of the Cross Church of Christ, Inc. located in Baltimore, Maryland. He has served as the Presiding Prelate to the Way of the Cross Church of Christ, International for 20 years.


As the Superintendent of Sunday School at age twelve (12), to the Presiding Prelate of the Way of the Cross Church of Christ, International, he has accepted each challenge with faith and courage. His peers refer to him as an Apostolic Father. In a world that is constantly changing, Bishop Cannady continues to embrace the Apostolic Doctrine.
